I like this one, though it's not quite how i picture Sun from the Waley translation...i'd comment on the fact we can't see his burned eyes, which would have been cool, but as he still has his armour, this is before that incident.
Very, very nice though. What is it, paint or computer colouring. The colour depth is impressive for either.
I'll have to read that story again. I only remember he came out of the coldron with illuminated eyes. I don't think they would be burning all the time. I think it would be cooler if it can be turned on and off.
It is such a cool story! Totally worthy of a movie with lots of special effects!
In the version I ready, the monkey was tricked into putting that crown onto his head because it was as thin as a thread and hidden in a fancy cap that the monk got him. The tiger skin came from a local wild animal that looked like it was going to eat the monk.
One of my favorite passage was the one depicting the generals from heaven came after the monkey and a number of transformations and lots of running around with whimsical combat descriptions.
The point where he turns into a many headed visage and begins laying about himself with his six arms is pretty cool.
Plus, when he turns into a fish to avoid the Jade Emperor's nephew always puts the Top Gun theme in my head.
The tiget skin was a wild animal, but it's also the only thing he wore after he escaped from the mountain of five elements, unless i missed something [not counting the thing where he pretended to be Tripitika, i think in the escapade with the apricot fairy...].
I loved the story so much that i allowed it to somewhat mutate a writing project i was working on at the time.
Aahh, 'Journey to the West'. I got to see a excerpt of it as a Beijing Opera performance during my trip to China. [link] I love the reflections of the individual plates of his amour and the fur texture. And the little wrinkles in his palms and knuckles. The stylized swirls repeating in the sky and bo staff are a nice touch. Awesome.
Actually I don't know if Goku should be a character of myth, folk religion or literature. He was based on a monkey god from Hinduism, then used as the monkey king in the Journey to the West, one of the 4 major classic Chinese fictions of all time; and nowadays in some Chinese regions, you can find he is worshipped with other gods or lesser gods in temples. Anyway, u have a very nic drawing of Goku
